Menier Chocolate Dish

Lithographed tin ashtray dish for Menier chocolate

Founded in 1816, the Menier company was one of the largest French chocolate producers and a pioneer of modern advertising. Firmin Bouisset’s poster (1892-1893) showing the little girl writing the brand name on the wall became one of the most famous advertising images in France. It was widely reproduced on packaging, enamel signs, boxes, and promotional items like this matchbox case. These pieces were distributed as gifts to customers and partners, mainly between the 1890s and 1910s.
