This absinthe spoon features a Fleur de Lys cutout in its grille. The large cutouts in the stem facilitate the flow of sugar water. This spoon is one of our newest and most popular. It is also an exact reproduction of a late 19th-century absinthe spoon.
This spoon is used in the preparation of a traditional French or Swiss absinthe. A traditional absinthe is prepared by pouring one ounce of absinthe into an absinthe glass, then placing the absinthe spoon across the glass and a sugar cube on the spoon. Ice-cold water is slowly dripped from a fountain, carafe, or brouilleur onto the sugar cube. The cold, sweetened water then drips from the spoon into the absinthe, releasing oils and scenting the air with fennel, grand wormwood, and anise. The combination also begins to turn a milky white color as the water mixes with the anise.
