Bonnaud (Hippolyte Léon Bonnaud, followed by the dynasty) is a clay pipe manufacturer from Marseille, founded in 1824, active until the years 1955-1958.
Specialty: figurative pipes in white or brown clay, often painted (heads, “Jacob,” café, advertising models). Renowned quality, less famous than Gambier (Givet) but very present in the tobacco shops and cafés of the South.
“Véritable Bonnaud” (Genuine Bonnaud) guarantees the origin against copies. 30 c is the price of a simple pipe, a common consumer object.
Small enameled counter plaque (same format as the “Pipes Bonnaud” signs sold at auction), typical early 20th century, before the decline of the clay pipe in favor of briar.
