Cast iron advertising match striker for Quinquina St Raphaël
Quinquina St Raphaël is a French aperitif made from mistelle (grape juice fortified with alcohol) and aromatic plants, notably cinchona (Cinchona bark), cocoa, bitter oranges, vanilla, and calumba. It is available in Red and Amber versions.
According to the brand's legend, it was created in 1830 by Dr. Adémar Juppet, who named it in honor of the Archangel Raphael. Historically, the Lyon industrialist Pierre-Marie Juppet marketed it starting in 1890 (the company was founded in 1884, becoming the "Saint-Raphaël Quinquina" public limited company in 1897). It enjoyed great success from the 1890s-1900s (Paris Universal Exposition), became a classic of French café counters, and saw its iconic "café waiters" appear in 1932.
